To descale a kettle, you can dissolve 1–2 teaspoons of citric acid in 500 ml of hot (not boiling) water, pour the solution in, let it sit for a while and then rinse thoroughly.
For your coffee machine, a mixture of 2 tablespoons of citric acid in about 1 liter of cold water works well – run it through the machine without coffee, then rinse 1–2 times with clean water.
Your dishwasher can be cleaned with 2–3 tablespoons of citric acid sprinkled directly into the interior before running a cycle without dishes.
Faucets, shower heads or toilets can be sprayed with a solution made from 3 tablespoons of citric acid in 500 ml of water, left to sit briefly and then rinsed off.
And if you like, you can descale your washing machine by adding 3–4 tablespoons of citric acid to the empty drum and running a 60 °C cycle without laundry – this may help remove limescale and extend your machine’s lifespan.
Please store citric acid in a dry, tightly sealed container, as the powder easily absorbs moisture from the air – the paper packaging is a deliberate choice to avoid plastic waste.
Important: Our citric acid is not food grade and therefore not suitable for consumption. Also, make sure to keep it out of reach of children.
